Ornamental plants are among the most popular horticultural commodities in Indonesia, as evidenced by their high demand and widespread interest. However, their cultivation is often hindered by pest infestations, particularly thrips. Thrips attacks can cause significant crop losses. One approach to controlling these insect pests is through the use of their natural enemies, such as Entomophthoralean fungi. This study aimed to assess the diversity of thrips species on various ornamental plants and to investigate the presence of Entomophthoralean fungi associated with them. The research involved selecting land plots, collecting thrips samples from the field, preparing specimens for species identification and fungal analysis, identifying fungal phases, calculating the fungal infection rate, and analyzing the data using Microsoft Excel 2016 for qualitative description. Four thrips species were identified: Thrips parvispinus, Frankliniella occidentalis, Megalurothrips distalis, and Haplothrips gowdeyi. Among these, T. parvispinus and F. occidentalis were found to be infected with Entomophthoralean fungi. The entomopathogenic fungus identified was Neozygites parvispora, with secondary conidia and hyphal bodies observed as the fungal infection stages. The highest fungal infection rate was recorded in F. occidentalis on snapdragon plants, while the lowest infection rate was found in F. occidentalis on chrysanthemum and gloxinia. |
