Abstract: JOSHUA RUBEN BUNGARAN SIMANJUNTAK.
JOSHUA RUBEN BUNGARAN SIMANJUNTAK. Characterization of Freshwater Stingray Habitats as a Basic for Management in Middle Stream of the Musi River, South Sumatera. Supervised by ZAIRION and AYU ERVINIA Freshwater stingrays hold significant ecological and economic value in the Musi River, South Sumatra. However, information regarding their habitat characterization remains limited. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the habitat of freshwater stingrays based on environmental parameters. The research was carried out temporally over three months (March to May 2023) and spatially across three stations in the middle stream of the Musi River: Pulo Kerto, Karang Anyar, and Plaju.Six species of freshwater stingrays were found in the Musi River, distributed across Pulo Kerto, Karang Anyar, and Plaju. The habitat characteristics of freshwater stingrays in the Musi River were marked by a depth range of 3–10 meters and clay-type substrate. The physicochemical parameters of the habitat included relatively high temperature and dissolved oxygen, low total dissolved solids and brightness, and a neutral to slightly acidic pH. All freshwater stingray species in the Musi River were associated with the physicochemical parameters of the water. Based on data analysis, no specific environmental parameters were found to be significantly charaterizing the habitat of freshwater stingrays in the middle stream of Musi River. Keywords: freshwater, habitat, Musi River, stingrays, water quality
