| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to evaluate the differences in the gradual weaning process with starter feed on the physiological responses, behavior, and performance of pre-weaning calves. The study was carried out for 35 days using six Brahman cross calves (3 males and 3 females) aged 3.5–4 months with an initial average body weight of 75.83±6.25 kg. The treatments consisted of an initial weaning duration of 8 hours (P1) and 12 hours (P2), which were increased by 4 hours weekly until reaching 24 hours. Data were analyzed using repeated measurement and a t-test. The results showed that differences in initial weaning duration did not significantly affect (P>0.05) the physiological responses of calves. There were changes in standing and sitting behaviors between the second and fourth weeks (P<0.05). In addition, calves with a 12-hour initial weaning duration showed better production performance (P<0.05) compared with those weaned for 8 hours. It was concluded that different gradual weaning process with starter feed up to 24 hours did not affect physiological responses but influenced sitting and standing behaviors across weeks. A 12-hour initial duration of gradual weaning provided more optimal performance. | - |
