The Lapindo Mudflow caused damage to the environment, loss of agricultural land and residential areas, and destroying local infrastructure within an area of more than 6,5 km2. The government’s policy in dealing with the case focuses on providing compensation based on the size of land and buildings, which is considered to pay less attention to the social-ecological aspects as a whole. This study uses a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. This study aims to determine and provide a comprehensive perspective of the long-term impact of the socio-ecological crisis, namely the Lapindo Mudflow, on changes in agrarian structure and the welfare of affected communities, and the effect of changes in agrarian structure on community welfare. The study were analysed using simple linear regression analysis, which showed that changes in agrarian structure didn’t significantly affect the welfare of affected communities. This is due to internal and external factors that occurred after the case. Most people worked in the non farm sector and experienced a decrease in land ownership. However, there has been an increase in income measured before and after the Lapindo Mudflow. |
