Surface runoff and soil erosion are common problems in sloped agricultural and plantation lands, as they can lead to the decline of soil and water quality, reduced productivity, and sedimentation of water bodies, ultimately resulting in physical land degradation. Soil tillage plays an important role in controlling surface runoff and erosion, especially in marginal monoculture lands such as those in the pineapple plantations of PT Great Giant Pineapple, Lampung. Surface runoff and erosion are closely related to tillage practices, rainfall, and canopy cover. This study aimed to identify and compare the effects of deep and shallow plowing techniques on surface runoff and erosion. The research was conducted in the research area of PT Great Giant Pineapple using a split-plot design without subplots. The results showed that surface runoff and erosion were more strongly correlated with rainfall than with canopy cover. Higher rainfall led to greater surface runoff and soil erosion. Both deep and shallow plowing were equally effective in controlling surface runoff and erosion. Surface runoff was the dominant factor influencing soil erosion levels compared to rainfall and canopy cover. Deep and shallow plowing showed no significant effect at the 95% confidence level on surface runoff and erosion in the pineapple plantations of PT Great Giant Pineapple.
