Abstract: Industri minyak bumi, dari hulu hingga ke hilir memiliki risiko mencemari lingkungan perairan.
The petroleum industry, from upstream to downstream, poses a risk of polluting the aquatic environment. Petroleum pollution can be treated with the use of Bio-Oil Spill Dispersant (Bio-OSD) which is based on palm oil surfactants. Until now, information about Bio-OSD products is still limited, so further research is needed to provide wider benefits. The purpose of this study is to determine the quality and effectiveness of Bio-OSD with storage treatment. The research began by designing Bio-OSD storage using different types of packaging and storage places. Bio-OSD effectiveness testing was carried out using the Swirling Flask Test method on freshwater media. The experiment employed a completely randomized design with three replicates on Bio-OSD storage, followed by multiple analyses (ANOVA) and Duncan's post-hoc test. The results of Bio-OSD storage with each treatment showed a decreased in quality in each parameter. X1Y1 treatment or storage in LDPE plastic bottles in an enclosed room maintains the best Bio-OSD quality with a pH value of 9.64, a viscosity of 2.71 mPa.s, a density of 0.99674 g/cm3, and a surface tension of 24.89 dyne/cm. Bio-OSD X1Y1 can disperse 4.6% of light crude oil in freshwater pollution. Bio-OSD storage can provide information that represents the state of the field and the effectiveness of the product against petroleum contamination.
