| Abstract: | REZA AMANDHA WULANDARI.

Supervised ZAENAL ABIDIN and SRI SUGIARTI. Methylene blue is a dye commonly used in industry and poses a serious problem when its concentration exceeds the allowable limit. Adsorption is the process by which a substance adheres to the surface of an adsorbent. Activated carbon is capable of adsorbing various types of waste, including dyes, due to its porous structure, which consists of micropores, mesopores, and macropores. Although powdered activated carbon has a higher adsorption capacity, it is difficult to separate after the adsorption process. Moreover, the direct application of activated carbon in the environment is highly impractical, as it can be easily dispersed by wind or water flow. To address these challenges, a cement–activated carbon composite has been developed to produce a stable, solid material that is easy to apply and capable of adsorbing methylene blue. The results show that activated carbon particles are larger in size than those of cement. Furthermore, a 1:1 ratio of cement to activated carbon yields a dense composite with good adsorption capacity. The potential applications of this composite make it a promising material for use in various industrial fields Keywords: activated carbon, cement, composite, methylene blue, pollution |
