The emergence of modern-featured smartphones has facilitated the activities of Generation Z students also triggered the behavior of phubbing, which is the neglect of social interaction due to a greater focus on mobile phones. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship and influence of self-control and fear of missing out (FoMO) on phubbing behavior among Generation Z college students. Utilizing a quantitative approach with voluntary sampling, the research involved 240 Generation Z students in West Java, aged 18-24. The findings of the study indicate that the majority of the respondents possess a moderate level of self-control, FoMO, and phubbing. The correlation analysis results indicate that the age of students is positively associated with phubbing, the duration of smartphone usage is negatively associated with self-control, the duration of smartphone usage is positively associated with FoMO and phubbing, and family income is positively associated with phubbing. It was discovered that self-control is negatively related to FoMO and phubbing, whereas FoMO is positively related to phubbing. The regression analysis results indicate that self-control has a significant negative impact on phubbing behavior.
