K EGA FIDA ARDELIA. Utilization of Spent Coffee Grounds as Moulding Cups with a Blend of Polylactic Acid (PLA) and Maleic anhydride Compatibilizer. Supervised by DEDE HERMAWAN and YEYEN NURHAMIYAH The use of plastic is inseparable from human daily life. This can lead to environmental problems due to plastic waste. On the other hand, the coffee industry produces coffee grounds that are often discarded and not optimally utilized. This study aims to determine the effect of varying levels of coffee grounds and maleic anhydride compatibilizer on the physical, mechanical, thermal, and biodegradability properties of molding cups, so as to obtain the right formulation to make molding cups with good physical, mechanical, thermal, and biodegradability properties so that later the product can be made and marketed commercially. The work procedure in this study includes the manufacture of film composites and testing the characteristics of film composite formulations consisting of testing thermal properties, mechanical properties, Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR), Melt Flow Rate (MFR) morphology, water absorption, and biodegradability. The results of the film composite characteristics testing showed that the AK 10% + MA sample was the best sample because it had tensile strength value of 25,05 MPa, elongation of 2,66%, water absorption of 0,00%, biodegradability of 28,03%, and stable thermal resistance despite having a low young modulus value and an overestimated MFR value. Keywords: bioplastic, compatibilizer, polylactic acid, spent coffee ground, thermoplastic starch-
