This study aims to evaluate the efficiency and accuracy of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) yield estimation using two different sampling techniques, namely the zigzag and straight-line methods. The research was conducted at PT Aek Tarum, Mesuji Estate, using sampling blocks 00A, 00B, and 00C. Data collection was carried out on three blocks with uniform area, plant age, and variety. Parameters analyzed included estimated and actual bunch count, estimated and actual tonnage, the difference between estimation and actual yield, percentage of error, time of implementation, as well as statistical tests including T-test and Mann-Whitney test. The results showed no statistically significant difference between estimated and actual yields for both zigzag and straight-line techniques (p > 0.05). However, from a practical standpoint, the zigzag method produced smaller deviations, lower percentage errors, and shorter implementation time compared to the straight-line method. Therefore, the zigzag sampling technique is considered more efficient and accurate, and is recommended as a more effective yield estimation method for operational activities in oil palm plantations. |
