Weather Modification Technology (WMT) is an effort to enhance or suppress precipitation in a given region. Its effectiveness is highly influenced by the physical properties of clouds and the precise timing of the seeding operation. This study aims to analyze the cloud's physical response to WMT through cloud development and meteorological parameters during two cloud seeding flights over the waters of East Kalimantan on August 17, 2024. The data used include C-band radar, seeding tracks, CMORPH rainfall estimates, wind profiles, and Cloud Liquid Water Content (CLWC). The Radar Domain Index (RDI) method was applied to assess changes in average reflectivity, reflectivity anomaly percentage, and fractional contributions to total reflectivity. The first flight, conducted from 11.09 to 13.25 WITA, showed an increase in CLWC from 0,053 g/kg to 0,190 g/kg, average reflectivity from 31-32 dBZ to 33 dBZ, and rainfall intensity from 1 mm/30 minutes to 2-3 mm/30 minutes. Meanwhile, the second flight, conducted from 14.40 to 16.56 WITA, took place after precipitation had already occurred, as indicated by a decrease in reflectivity from 25,5 dBZ to 11 dBZ, maximum CLWC reaching only 0,033 g/kg, and a decline in rainfall intensity during the seeding period. This study highlights the importance of conducting seeding during the cloud growth phase to achieve optimal results. |
