| dc.description.abstract | Climate change has led to shifts and increased uncertainty in future climate conditions. Tourism is a highly climate-sensitive economic sector, making it essential to understand the relationship between climate and tourism, especially through indicators such as the Holiday Climate Index (HCI). This study aims to estimate the tourism climate comfort levels in both beach and urban areas of the Mentawai Islands Regency during the historical period of 1986–2010 and to project future HCI under climate change scenarios SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 for the period 2026–2050. The results indicate that urban HCI values range from marginal to very good, while beach HCI values range from unacceptable to very good. Urban tourism areas tend to exhibit more favorable HCI values compared to beach areas, primarily due to high rainfall and cloud cover in the region. Projections from CMIP6 models ACCESS-CM2, FGOALS-f3-L, and MIROC6 reveal shifts in the seasonal patterns of tourism climate comfort. The dry season, characterized by more comfortable HCI values, is projected to shift from May to October in the ACCESS-CM2 and FGOALS-f3-L models, and from February to September in the MIROC6 model. The comfortable conditions in models follow the dry season pattern of each respective model. | - |
