Abstract: Cadangan manfaat mencerminkan kewajiban perusahaan asuransi untuk membayar klaim selama masa pertanggungan.
Benefit reserves represent an insurance company's liability to pay claims throughout the coverage period. This study examines the calculation of monthly benefit reserves for whole life insurance products covering two insured individuals under a joint life status. Monthly mortality rates are estimated using the Makeham mortality law, which accounts for both age-related and age-independent risk factors. The calculation of benefit reserves is then performed prospectively using two approaches: the traditional prospective method and the New Jersey method. Calculations are based on the 2023 Indonesian Mortality Table and the Bank Indonesia 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate, assumed to remain constant at 6%. The results indicate that the traditional prospective method yields a higher initial reserve compared to the New Jersey method. The New Jersey method enables part of the initial premium to be allocated toward acquisition costs, making it more efficient for short-term cash flow management.
