This research aims to estimate the productivity of the fishing unit, identify the composition of target and bycatch species, and analyze the proportion of bycatch to total catch from purse seine based at the Oceanic Fishing Port (PPS) of Belawan. This port is one of the major fishing hubs with high fishing activity, where the use of purse seines often results in bycatch that has a potentially negative impact on the sustainability of the marine fish resources. Field data were collected from December 2024 to January 2025 using a purposive sampling technique on purse seine vessels larger than 30 GT. The data collected included total catch, species composition, as well as seasonal and fishing ground information. The results showed that total purse seine catch from December 2023 to November 2024 reached 478,542 kg, consisting of 355,297 kg (74%) target catch and 123,245 kg (26%) bycatch. A total of 18 species were identified, comprising 13 target species and 5 bycatch species. The highest CPUE was recorded in December 2023 at 64,385 kg/trip, and the lowest in July 2024 at 20,416 kg/trip. A relatively high bycatch proportion occurred in April and September 2024, coinciding with seasonal transitions. The target catch was dominated by skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) at 232,652 kg, while the bycatch was dominated by scad (Decapterus macrosoma) at 93,557 kg.
