Kana Vanilla is an SME based in Semarang, producing export-quality vanilla beans. The business faces significant challenges, including mold contamination on its products and suboptimal tube packaging that fails to meet the preferences of export consumers. This study aims to implement process improvements and analyze their resulting additional costs. The methodology used is the implementation of washing and packaging process improvement designs, additional cost analysis, and SOP design. The ideation phase led to the proposed use of ozone for washing vanilla pods, beeswax for tube sealing, and paper wrap and cardboard for the secondary packaging. The result of the cost analysis shows that the additional cost for the washing process is Rp8,269.62/kg, and the additional cost for the tube packaging and secondary packaging process is Rp141,478.46/kg. The additional cost per unit due to the process improvement is Rp1.828,27 per unit tube and Rp413.48 per unit plastic vacuum. In addition, an SOP document was designed to support the standardization of work procedures in the implementation of process improvements at Kana Vanilla. |
