Documentary films are audiovisual communication media that effectively convey fact-based information. Ngindung ka Waktu Mibapa ka Jaman is a participatory documentary film that raises the theme of gamelan through one of its traditional producers, namely Gong Factory in Bogor City. This documentary uses a narrative directing approach with a three-act structure according to Syd Field, consisting of introduction, conflict, and resolution. This style was chosen to build a storyline that is coherent, structured, and easy for the audience to understand. A participatory documentary, the director actively and interactively involves the sources in the information gathering process, including describing the history, philosophy, and process of making gamelan traditionally. The purpose of producing this film is to convey cultural information in an interesting and emotional way, as well as to strengthen awareness of the importance of preserving gamelan in the modern era. This project also discusses how the three-act narrative approach is applied in a documentary context, such as the arrangement of the narrative flow, visual arrangement, and strategies in building the involvement of the sources. As a result, this film is expected to be an educational media for the audience.
