| dc.description.abstract | The increasing global energy demand has driven the use of environmentally friendly alternative fuels, one of which is biodiesel. However, inexpensive feedstocks for biodiesel such as non-edible oils and industrial waste generally contain high levels of free fatty acids (FFA), requiring pretreatment to reduce the FFA content for efficient transesterification. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding glycerol as an FFA-reducing agent on diesel engine performance by comparing it with conventional biodiesel. The study was conducted with two treatments: normal biodiesel and biodiesel with added glycerol. Glycerol was added at ratios of 0,75 g/g, 1 g/g, and 1,25 g/g to reduce FFA levels. Methods included biodiesel quality testing and diesel engine performance testing using the different fuel variations. The results demonstrated that glycerol addition influenced engine performance, showing an increase with a maximum torque of 588 Nm at 1799 rpm (glycerol 0,75 g/g) and maximum power of 4,05 kW at 2083 rpm (glycerol 1 g/g). The lowest specific fuel consumption of 273,47 g/kW-h was achieved with glycerol 1 g/g, indicating greater efficiency compared to fuel without glycerol. | - |
