| dc.description.abstract | Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus [L.] Moench) is a member of Malvaceae family found in Asia and Africa. The diversity of okra cultivars is widely developed due to its status as a functional vegetable with notable health benefits. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the plants to be cultivated, especially their characteristics, is essential. This study aimed to analyze the leaf anatomical structures of okra cultivars, namely Zahira IPB, C127, Naila IPB, Clemson, and Green Velvet. The method involved preparation of microscopic slides paradermal and transversel sections, followed by observation and analysis using One-Way ANOVA. The anatomical traits observed included epidermal cell shape, stomata type, density, index, trichome type, cuticule thickness, epidermal thickness, mesophyll structure, and vascular bundle arrangement. Paradermal observations showed okra epidermal cell shape was irregular and polygonal. The type of stomata identified were anisocytic, anomocytic, parasitic, and hemiparasitic. Both glandular and non-glandular trichomes were present. Transverse section showed that the greatest cuticule and epidermal thickest was observed Green Velvet. The thickest leaf was found in C127 and the thinnest in Green Velvet. All cultivars exhibited an open collateral arrangement. The five cultivars show variation in leaf anatomical structure, with red okra exhibiting significantly different parameters compared to green okra. | |
