Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a herbal plant that used as an alternative medicine, especially to improve the immune system. This study aims to analyze the effect of 20% and 80% lemongrass infusion on the white blood profile of normal rat during 2 weeks of administration. A total of 30 rats were divided into three groups: control, 20% infusion treatment, and 80% infusion. A total of 0.1 mL of blood was taken from the tail and analyzed using an Alovision HM560V hematology analyzer. The results showed that administration of lemongrass infusion did not provide a significant difference in the number of WBC, lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. However, neutrophil and basophil levels tended to be higher in the treatment group than in the control. This study concluded that lemongrass infusion did not significantly affect the white blood profile, but could increase the stress index in the body. Administration of infusion with the right concentration needs to be considered to maximize its pharmacological benefits without causing negative effects. |
