Rice straw and husk waste are common agricultural by-products often burned openly in Kedusunan 3, Kampung Gandasoli, Sukabumi, causing air pollution and environmental degradation. This study aims to estimate the potential reduction of waste by utilizing it as biodegradable art paper, to identify its decomposition time in soil, and to determine the best composition based on biodegradability and mechanical tests (ASTM D828). Three compositions of straw and husk were used (100:0, 75:25, 50:50) with 1% NaOH delignification and wet sheet casting method. From 65 hectares of rice fields, the waste reduction potential reached 159–324 tons per season. The resulting paper decomposed up to 100% in less than 60 days. The 100% straw composition produced the best mechanical strength with a tensile strength of 1.546 MPa and elongation of 6.43%. These findings indicate that agricultural waste has the potential to be an eco-friendly raw material and offers a sustainable waste management solution for rural areas. |
