The use of metals in wood construction is prone to corrosion, because wood contains extractives and hemicellulose that make it acidic. This study tested the acidity of pine and acacia wood due to changes in extractive content and drying treatment, and its effect on the corrosion properties of iron metal. Wood meal was extracted using acetone by maceration method. Wood drying was carried out at a temperature of 70 °C for 12 and 24 hours. Wood's acidity and corrosion properties were tested for each wood extraction and drying treatment. The effect of wood extractives on corrosion was confirmed by measuring the iron corrosion in extract solutions at various concentrations. Acacia wood had higher extractives content and a more pronounced influence on metal corrosion than pine wood, however, pine wood has a higher acidity and the extractives compounds than that of acacia. The drying of unextracted wood meal for 24 hours exhibited the highest acidity and weight loss of iron. The analysis of wood extracts compositions showed that both wood extracts contained various acidic compounds which may contribute to the acceleration of iron corrosion.-
