Abstract: Tanah gambut memiliki daya pegang hara yang rendah akibat struktur organiknya yang poros, sehingga unsur hara mudah tercuci.
Peat soils have low nutrient holding capacity due to their porous organic structure, resulting in high nutrient leaching. One strategy to optimize fertilization on peatlands is the application of slow release fertilizer (SRF), which can control the rate of nutrient release in accordance with plant needs. This study aimed to evaluate the use of cylindrical-shaped SRF made from NPK and sludge in maintaining nutrient availability and improving the productivity of sweet corn in peat soil. The experiment was conducted at the Greenhouse of the Cikabayan Experimental Station, IPB, using a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with a single factor: the combination of fertilizer form and composition. The treatments consisted of 12 levels: 100% NPK, 100% NPK + 8% sludge, and combinations of small and large cylindrical SRF containing 25%, 50%, and 75% NPK (with or without 8% sludge) mixed with 25%, 50%, and 75% compost. The results showed that the use of cylindrical SRF significantly improved nutrient availability and increased sweet corn yield in peat soil. The treatment with a small cylinder containing 25% NPK + 75% compost exhibited the lowest and most stable nitrogen leaching throughout the observation period, indicating efficient nutrient release aligned with plant requirements. Furthermore, the treatment with a large cylinder containing 25% NPK + 8% sludge + 75% compost resulted in the highest productivity based on six key yield parameters: ear weight with and without husk, ear length, ear diameter, as well as kernel brix and fructose content. These findings suggest that the appropriate formulation and form of SRF can reduce nutrient loss through leaching while supporting optimal crop productivity on peat soils.
