Indonesia has experienced a surge in coal production, but faces challenges with acid mine drainage (AMD) from mining operations. AMD contains high levels of dissolved heavy metal elements due to the very low pH of the water. Therefore, to prevent pollution of public waters caused by AMD, the government requires mining companies to treat AMD before it is released into public waters. This study aims to analyze various compositions of fly ash and bottom ash (FABA) in brick making to determine their effectiveness in raising the pH of AMD and to compare the efficiency of using FABA bricks with plants in raising the pH of AMD. The research was conducted at PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara from March to June 2023 using a one-factor Completely Randomized Design method with six treatments and three replications. The results showed that the composition of FABA affects the ability of FABA bricks to raise the pH of AMD. The best FABA composition is fly ash = 60% and bottom ash = 20%. Plants require longer time in raising the pH of AMD. |
