Abstract: Tradisi uang panai menjadi penting dalam pernikahan adat suku Bugis, sebab masyarakat Bugis menganggap uang panai salah satu faktor penentu berlangsungnya pernikahan. Hal itu tentu menimbulkan persepsi yang berbeda dikalangan laki-laki Bugis perantauan, sehingga memengaruhi kesiapan menikah mereka yang berujung pada menunda atau tidak menunda menikah. Tujuan penelitian ini, yaitu: 1) menganalisis hubungan persepsi terhadap tradisi uang panai dengan tingkat kesiapan menikah, dan 2) menganalisis hubungan tingkat kesiapan menikah dengan preferensi menunda menikah pada laki-laki Bugis perantauan di Kota Bogor. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan menyebarkan pada 50 responden yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Penelitian ini didukung data kualitatif melalui wawancara mendalam pada informan yang ditentukan dengan snowball sampling. Data kuantitatif dianalisis dengan Rank Spearman dan Chi- square yang menemukan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan antara persepsi terhadap tradisi uang panai dengan tingkat kesiapan menikah, dan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat kesiapan menikah dengan preferensi menunda menikah pada laki-laki Bugis perantauan.
The tradition of dowry money is important in Bugis traditional weddings, because the Bugis people consider dowry money to be one of the determining factors for a marriage to take place. This certainly creates different perceptions among Bugis migrant men, thus affecting their readiness to marry which ends in ending or not terminating the marriage. The objectives of this study are: 1) to analyze the relationship between perceptions of the dowry money tradition and the level of readiness to marry, and 2) to analyze the relationship between the level of readiness to marry and the preference to postpone marriage among Bugis migrant men in Bogor City. This study used a survey method by distributing to 50 respondents selected by purposive sampling. This study was supported by qualitative data through in-depth interviews with informants determined by snowball sampling. Quantitative data were analyzed using Spearman Rank and Chi-square which found that there was a significant relationship between perceptions of the dowry money tradition and the level of readiness to marry, and there was a significant relationship between the level of readiness to marry and the preference to postpone marriage among Bugis migrant men.
