Surplus Underwriting is one of the main performance indicators in sharia insurance, which reflects the efficiency of risk management and the ability to maintain a balance between participant contributions and claims. Sharia insurance obtains an underwriting surplus that can be used as a reserve when an underwriting deficit occurs or when the insurance burden exceeds insurance income. The acquisition of an underwriting surplus can be used as a reserve in paying claims and minimizing the risk of default on claims of sharia insurance participants so that it can increase public interest in insurance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development of underwriting surplus in general sharia insurance in Indonesia and the factors that influence it. This study uses a panel data regression method, with estimation results using the REM Generalized Least Square (GLS) model. The results show that the contribution, investment return and GDP variables have a positive effect on the underwriting surplus, while the claim variable has a negative effect. |
