Fly ash and bottom ash are coal combustion residues that have the potential to be used as soil amendments to improve the fertility of planting media. This study aims to characterize fly ash and bottom ash and test their effect on the growth of mustard greens (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis). The research was conducted using latosol soil planting media mixed with fly ash and bottom ash in several equal compositions. Parameters observed included physical and chemical properties of fly ash, bottom ash, and soil, as well as plant growth including plant height, number of leaves, wet weight, and dry weight. The results showed that the addition of fly ash and bottom ash could increase soil pH from 5.0 to 7.5, significantly increasing calcium and magnesium contents. The fly ash treatment produced the best growth, characterized by plant height reaching 50.75 cm and wet weight of 43.73 grams, and improved soil physical properties such as color and texture. Fly ash and bottom ash have great potential to be utilized sustainably as environmentally friendly alternative growing media.
