Heat treatment is an effective technology for improving wood quality. The study aims to analyse the optimal heat treatment to increase qualities of acor wood. In this study, heat treatment was applied to Acacia auriculiformis wood with a size of 2 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm and 2 cm x 5 cm x 10 cm to evaluate the effects of temperature and heating period on its physical properties. The result showed that the wood density decreased after heat treatment 160 °C for 6 hours, from 0,80 g cm-3 to 0,67 g cm-3. The hygrosopic properties of wood significantly decreased with increasing heating temperature. The dimensional stability increased based on Anti swelling efficiency (ASE) value of 71,75%. The reduction in water uptake by an average of 26,28% indicated improved resistance to moisture and fungal attack. Additionaly, the color of the wood become darker. The brightness value (L*) decreased by 10,9%, the change in a* value was 3,55% and b* was 6,07%. Heat treated wood showed the occurrence of chemical changes in wood cell components in cell walls, weightloss and change in wood color. |
