Abstract: Ekosistem terumbu karang merupakan habitat berbagai biota laut, termasuk iktiofauna.
Coral reef ecosystems are home to a variety of marine life, including ectiofauna. Ictiofauna in this study focuses on fishes that use coral reefs as nursery areas, spawning areas, and foraging areas. This study aims to assess and analyze the diversity and biomass of reef fish in the leeward and windward zones of the Koon Island Marine Protected Area. The research was conducted on September 30-October 7, 2023 in Koon Island and Grogos Island, Maluku Province. Observations of reef fish used the Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method. Koon Island and its surroundings have a stable ecosystem condition, because it has a medium diversity index value, a high uniformity index, and a low dominance index. There were 8,907 fish individuals consisting of 28 families with an abundance value in the leeward zone of 325.6 individuals/250 m2 and the windward zone of 344.4 individuals/250 m2 and a biomass value of the leeward zone of 39,645.8 grams/m2 and the windward zone of 68,961.3 grams/m2. The leeward and windward zones had no significant differences in fish biomass values at each monitoring location.
