Abstract: Perusahaan asuransi bertanggung jawab penuh atas pembayaran klaim kepada nasabah.
Insurance companies are fully responsible for paying claims to policyholders. The time gap between receiving premium income and the payment of claims by the company necessitates the estimation of claim reserves. Accurate estimation of claim reserves is crucial for insurance companies, as claim reserves serve as one of the key indicators of a company’s financial health. Incurred but Not Reported (IBNR) reserves arise from claims that have already occurred but have not yet been reported to the insurance company. There are various methods for estimating IBNR claim reserves, two of which are the Cape Cod and Bornhuetter-Ferguson methods. This study examines the estimation of IBNR claim reserves in homeowners/farmowners insurance at a company in the United States. The purpose of this paper is to calculate and compare IBNR claim reserve estimates using the Cape Cod and Bornhuetter Ferguson methods. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the Bornhuetter-Ferguson method provides better estimation results compared to the Cape Cod method in the case of homeowners/farmowners data.
