Bamboo has advantages as a construction material, such as ease of processing, good strength-to-weight ratio, high aesthetic value, and environmental friendliness. One potential application of bamboo is as a roof. However, the heterogeneous, hydrophilic, and susceptible to fungi of bamboo limits its use. A study was conducted to develop a prototype shingle from ater bamboo (Gigantochloa atter (Hassk.) Kurz) consisting of three layers of shingles heat-treated 60 °C (control), 150 °C, and 180 °C for 2 hours and analyze its chemical properties, wettability, and resistance to fungi. The results showed that the heat-treated shingle prototype was successfully developed with an attractive design and relatively lightweight. The higher heat treatment (180 °C) caused significant changes in the chemical properties of the shingle, increasing hydrophobicity, decreasing wettability, and increasing resistance to fungi becoming class II. On the other hand, higher heat treatment temperatures caused the surface color of the shingle to become darker.-
