Honey contains the compound chrysin which is known to play a role in the masculinization process of several types of fish through inhibiting aromatase. This study aims to evaluate the effect of using honey in the masculinization process of tilapia larvae. The masculinization process is carried out using the stocky tilapia larvae with size of 0.1 cm, namely: 1) without immersion (KN), 2) using hormone 17a-methystosterone (KP), and using honey with 3) doses 5 mL/L (M5) and 4) 10 mL/L (M10). The results of the research showed that giving honey at a dose of 5 mL/L could produce fish with the highest percentage of male sex, 78.25%, KN the lowest percentage 39.50%. The highest and lowest survival rates from the M5 and KP of 88% and 62.05%, the highest weight growth was in the M5 43%, and the lowest from the KN results 3.8%, specific growth rate with the highest in the KP results 40.7%, and the lowest in the M5 30.0% day-1. Based on the results of this research, that the M5 produces a high percentage of male fish. |
