Abstract: Fishermen in Palabuhanratu use pocong nets in lobster seed catching operations with dipping lights, whose energy source comes from primary batteries that are disposed of without any reprocessing. Disposal of battery waste is often done from the boat, when the boat is in the fishing ground or in the harbor pond. This study aims to describe the differences in operating methods of dugout nets with and without dipping lights, determine fishermen's perceptions of battery waste in dipping lights, predict the potential for fish habitat degradation due to battery waste, and analyze preferences for handling and processinsg battery waste. The methods used were interviews and direct observation. The analysis used was descriptive analysis and public choice. The results showed that the estimated battery waste reached 4,200 batteries per day. Priority strategies that can be carried out based on the preferences of fishermen and port parties for processing are giving an appeal for socialization of environmental processing, creating regulations and SOPs for battery waste processing, and recycling batteries involving private companies.
