Helminthiasis in horses are one of the factors that can affect the productivity and performance of horses. This study aimed to identify strongyle species in athlete horses in Cibinong District, Bogor Regency, West Java. A total of 41 horse feces samples were taken from athlete horses. The fecal samples were examined using the flotation method, fecal fertilization to breed larvae, and identification of eggs and infective larvae (L3). The results of this study showed that the type of worms infecting horses was strongyle nematodes of the order strongylidae. The characteristics of strongyle eggs found were round-oval (elliptical), thin-walled, and consisted of a morula in the center, with varying sizes of 60-119 x 35-65 µm. The larvae found in the fertilized area were strongyle larvae of Cyathostomine (Type A 64%, B 2%, C 8%, F 5% and G 8%), Gyalocephalus capitus 9%, and Poteriostonum sp 5%. The percentage of Cyathostomine larvae was higher than the other two types. Cyathostomine larvae have a very fast life cycle, including good environmental conditions and adaptive and good reproductive systems. |
