Abstract: Topeng monyet is a traditional performance in Central and West Java, Indonesia, featuring trained long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) that mimic human activities like riding bicycles, wearing clothes, and shopping. This practice raises concerns regarding animal welfare, zoonotic disease risks, and its implications for sustainable development goals (SDGs). Questionaire survery is carried out by using digital or printed PDF format, face-to-face interview and online form to determine the knowledge of respondents in 4 groups which are the public, government, non-governmental organization (NGO), and expert. A total of 28 respondents are obtained with each group of 7 respondents. The results of this study showed that experts had the total of highest score in animal welfare (3513) and SDGs (1982), while the public has the lowest mark (1421 & 1225) compared to other groups. The total mark for NGO is higher than government in animal welfare (3387 vs 1833) but lower in SDG (1668 vs 1781). Experts consistently showed the highest levels of understanding across various subjects, followed by government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the public. This study concluded that experts had a better understanding, knowledge, levels of awareness and the key highlight the gap of knowledge and awareness between expert and public groups.
