Dermatophytosis is one of skin disease caused by dermatophyte fungus and commonly known as ringworm. This fungus infects the epidermal layer of the skin, hair and nails. Dermatophyte can easily spread and multiply in areas with high humidity to cause skin diseases. The purpose of the final project report is to confirm the woodlamp method using the trichogram method for skin examination in cat which have skin problem with suspected diagnosis of dermatophytosis. The study was conducted in 9 cats with have clinical signs such as dandruff, erythema, and alopecia. The results of both methods was reported descriptively and calculated in the percentages values. The woodlamp result of hair samples of all cats showed 100% positive for dermatophytosis by luminescence green birefringence, while the results of the trichogram method followed by microscopic evaluation of the hair roots and hair shaft found arthrospora, 66% positive and 33% negative. Dermatophytosis examination using trichogram can be used to confirm the results of woodlamp examination to avoid misdiagnosis or false positive dermatophytosis. |
