| Abstract: | This study aimed to determine the quality of eggs from different ages of chickens from Yong’s Farm, Seremban, Malaysia. The method used was 60 eggs were collected from three of different ages of chicken; 25 (n=20 eggs), 35 (n=20 eggs) and 58 weeks old (n=20 eggs). The variables included egg weight, shell thickness, yolk color, yolk index, albumen index and Haugh unit. The results showed the highest egg weight was recorded with 58 weeks old chicken. The egg shell thickness found at week 25 week (0,455 ± 0,08 mm), 35 weeks (0,495 ± 0,08 mm) and 58 weeks (0,475 ± 0,08 mm). Yolk color was at the highest mean of.12,6 ± 0,68 (25 weeks) while on week 35 and 58 it ranges between 5,45 ± 0,51 and 5,55 ± 0,51. The yolk index was recorded on week 25 and no specific trends were observed and the yolk index was not significant between 35 and 58 weeks of age. Albumen index was highest at week 25 were (0,129 ± 0,0), week 35 (0,113 ± 0,03) and week 58 (0,088 ± 0,02). The highest HU was recorded at week 25 (94,81 ± 5,33) and decreased to (90,52 ± 6,64) at week 35 and (81,95 ± 6,24) at week 58. It can be concluded that chicken influences both exterior and interior quality, except the yolk color with the quality of eggs decreasing as the age increases. |
