(ZEE) mencapai tiga juta kilometer persegi. Hal ini menjadikan Indonesia
menjadi penghasil rumput laut terbesar kedua di dunia. Rumput laut memiliki
mengetahui dampak lingkungan potensial adalah Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
(global warming potential, GWP), ekotoksisitas daratan (terrestrial ecotoxicity
bahan bakar terbarukan. Penggunaan energi terbarukan yaitu energi hydro dapat
menurunkan emisi sebesar 86%. Indonesia is a country with sea area without exclusive economic zone (EEZ) spanning three million square kilometers. This makes Indonesia the second-largest seaweed producer in the world. Seaweed has a high content of protein and polysaccharides, making it a quality source of both. However, an extraction process is required to obtain the protein and polysaccharides from seaweed. This research aims to examine the potential environmental impacts arising from the integrated extraction process of protein and polysaccharides from seaweed using the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) at a laboratory scale. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was applied to determine the potential environmental impacts. LCA identifies specific potential environmental impacts based on primary data taken during the extraction process and secondary data, from which any emissions produced from used materials or energy were calculated. The most significant emission sources or "hotspots" resulted from the extraction process can also be identified. The extraction process of 5 g seaweed meal produced 0.24 g of protein and 0.02 g of polysaccharides. The most significant environmental impacts from the process were global warming potential (GWP), terrestrial ecotoxicity potential (TETP), and non-carcinogenic human toxicity potential (HTPnc). The potential environmental impacts for producing 1 gram of protein were 9.02 kg CO2 eq (GWP); 6.12 kg 1,4-DCB (TETP); and 15.80 kg 1,4-DCB (HTPnc). The potential environmental impacts for producing 1 gram of polysaccharide were 29.50 kg CO2 eq (GWP); 26.40 kg 1,4-DCB (TETP); and 48.80 kg 1,4-DCB (HTPnc). The hotspots were found in the use of electrical energy for freeze drying and sentrifugation 1. Sensitivity analysis was performed by simulating electricity generated from renewable fuels. Using renewable energy, specifically hydroelectric power, would reduce emissions by 86%. |
