Abstract: Ketersediaan pakan yang mencukupi menjadi tantangan bagi peternak seiring dengan peningkatan populasi ternak, fluktuasi musim serta lahan yang semakin menyempit. Eksplorasi bahan pakan hasil samping atau by-product menjadi salah satu upaya dalam menyediakan bahan pakan yang murah dan berkelanjutan. Bahan pakan asal by-product yang belum banyak dimanfaatkan ialah by-product asal serangga BSF yang disebut dengan frass. Frass merupakan media sisa pemeliharaan larva BSF yang didalamnya terdapat sisa pakan, kotoran larva, larva yang mati maupun khitin yang berasal dari eksoskeleton larva. Nilai nutrien yang terkandung di dalam frass masih dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai campuran pakan ternak ruminansia, khususnya sebagai sumber serat dengan kadar serat kasar 21%. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi penggunaan frass pod kakao dan frass bungkil inti sawit dari larva black soldier fly terhadap performa, profil darah dan fermentabilitas rumen kambing Boerka. Kambing Boerka jantan sebanyak 12 ekor digunakan pada penelitian ini dengan rataan bobot 23,79±3,49 kg yang dikelompokkan menjadi empat kelompok (berdasarkan bobot badan) sebagai ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari R0: ransum kontrol (30% hijauan+70% konsentrat), R1: ransum mengandung 15% frass pod kakao+15% hijauan+70% konsentrat, R2: ransum mengandung 15% frass bungkil inti sawit+15% hijauan+70% konsentrat. Peubah yang diamati meliputi konsumsi nutrien, pH rumen, kadar VFA dan amonia serta jumlah protozoa, profil hematologi, metabolit darah, pertambahan bobot badan, dan efisiensi penggunaan pakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dan pengolahan data menggunakan ANOVA. Nilai signifikan berkisar (p<0,05), hasil yang berbeda nyata akan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian ransum mengandung frass pod kakao memberikan respon yang lebih baik terhadap performa ternak dibandingkan dengan pemberian ransum mengandung frass bungkil inti sawit. Kesimpulannya ialah pemberian ransum mengandung frass pod kakao dan frass bungkil inti sawit sebagai sumber serat kasar dapat digunakan pada campuran ransum kambing dan tidak mengganggu kesehatan ternak maupun fermentabilitas rumen kambing.
The availability of sufficient feed is a challenge for livestock farmers along with the increase in livestock population, seasonal fluctuations and increasingly narrow land. Exploration of feed ingredients from by-product is one of the efforts to provide cheap and sustainable feed ingredients. The feed ingredient from by-product that has not beed widely utilized is by-product from Black Soldier Fly insects called frass. Frass is a residual media for BSF larval rearing in which there are residual feed, larval excrement, dead larvae and chitin from larvae exoskeleton. The nutritional value contained in frass can still be used as a mixture of ruminant animal feed, especially as a fiber source. This study was aimed to evaluate the utilization of total mixed ration containing cocoa pod frass and palm kernel meal frass from BSF larvae on the performance and blood profile of Boerka goats. Twelve male boerka goats with an average initial weight of 23.79 ± 3.49 kg were used in this experiment which were then grouped into four groups (based on body weight) as replication. The treatment consisted of R0: control ration (30% forage+70% concentrate), R1: ration containing 15% cocoa pod frass+15% forage+70% concentrate, and R2: 15% palm kernel meal frass+15% forage+70% concentrate. The parameters observed were nutrient consumption, rumen pH, VFA, NH3, protozoa, hematological profile and blood metabolites, body weight gain and also feed efficiency. The study used randomized block design and the collected data would be analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) as the significance of treatments was continued with Duncan test. The result showed that ration containing cocoa pod frass gave a better response on the performance of goats. The conclusion of this study was feeding ration containing cocoa pod frass and palm kernel meal frass as fiber source can be used as a mixture in goat’s ration and do not interfere the goat’s health as well as rumen fermentability.
