Shigella sp. and Pseudomonas sp. are the most common pathogenic bacteria that cause gastrointestinal diseases in primates and non-human primates. This study aims to isolate and identify the pathogenic bacteria, Pseudomonas sp. and Shigella sp., found in the feces of proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus). A total of eight proboscis monkey feces samples were collected from the Bacteriology Laboratory, Medical Microbiology Division, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University. Bacteria in proboscis monkey feces were isolated by streak plate methode on MacConkey Agar (MCA) media and identification by biochemical test and sugar test, according to Cowan and Steel’s Manual for the Identification of Medical Bacteria. The test results confirmed that these bacteria accurately presented three isolates matching characteristics to Shigella sp. and one isolate of Pseudomonas sp.
