Bees are pollinating agents that play an essential role in increasing plant productivity. Tetragonula laeviceps (Apidae: Meliponini) is a bee commonly found in Indonesia which has potential as a plant pollinating agent. The application of synthetic insecticides is thought to be one of the causes in declining the bee colony populations. This study aimed to determine the effect of the application of three insecticide active ingredients; imidacloprid, abamectin, and profenofos on the visiting activity of T. laeviceps bees and the productivity of tomato plants. The research was conducted on a semi-field scale in a plastic house (6.5 m in length, 6.5 m in width, and 2.5 m in height). The semi-field test stages included land preparation and planting, placing bee colonies, and application of insecticides with active ingredients of imidacloprid, abamectin, and profenofos with formulation concentrations of 4 g/l, 1 ml/l, and 2 ml/l, respectively. Observational variables include bee visits, evaluation of the level of quality and quantity of tomatoes, and determining the estimation of the economic value of pollination. Based on the results of observations, insecticides affected the T. laeviceps visit activities to flowers and tomato plants. Imidacloprid and profenofos treatments gave the effect on the visiting activity of bees on plants and flowers after spraying insecticides. The durations of the visit of T. laeviceps bees to flowers and tomato plants on imidacloprid, abamectin, profenofos treatments, and control were 10,88; 66,05; 12,86; and 86,29 seconds and 10,00; 55,67; 12,91; and 77,95 seconds, respectively. The behavior of bees visiting flowers has an indirect effect on weight, diameter, fruit length, as well as fruit set. In conclusion, insecticide application can affect visitation and foraging bee activities to plants, so it should be careful when conducting insecticide application particularly when the presence of pollinating insects such as T. laeviceps bees.
