The high demand of potato encourages efforts to increase the quantity and quality of potato crops in Indonesia, one of which is through growth monitoring and yields predicting. Potato plants have distinctive roots with special patterns and underground tubers which makes it difficult to identify plant growth and development. Proximal sensing supports site (ground-level) monitoring via high-resolution sensors (1 nm), so information that will be obtained are more detailed without destruct the plant. Spectroradiometer is a proximal sensing instrument that capable for measuring the spectral reflectance value of an object. This research aims to analyze spectral pattern characteristics of potato crops in several growth stages based on proximal sensing method and to analyze the relation between spectral reflectance value and the production of potato crops. Based on the spectral pattern analysis, the reflectance value of potato crops increased from vegetative phase (39 DAP) to early generative phase (47 DAP) until it reached a maximum value, then decreased at mid and end generative (70 and 88 DAP). The peak reflectance values occur in red-edge and NIR wavelength and have a sloping pattern in visible wavelength. Based on linear regression, it was found that the reflectance value of the potato crops was only equivalent to the harvested weight value of 9.3% in red-edge wave and 9.6% in NIR wave at 47 DAP. The correlation between reflectance values and yield weight tends to be weak with the highest value shown by potato plants at 47 DAP in the red-edge wave and NIR, namely 0.307 and 0.326. Internal factors of the plant, namely canopy width, chlorophyll concentration and the development of the internal structure of the leaves, as well as external factors, namely excessive rainfall and the occurrence of earthquakes which cause delays in weeding and fertilization are thought to influence the characteristics of the spectral pattern.
