| Abstract: | According to Koh (1963), farmers association which could be instrumental in agricultural development may be defined as an economic-institutional device formed, with the stated objectives of promoting farmers mutual interest; improving their knowledge and skills; increasing their farm productivity and income; raising their living standard and developing the agricultural and rural economy. However, without the sympathetic understanding, active participation and loyal support of the members, there can be no expectation of a sound organization, and a farmers association has little chance of success (Liao, 1968). It is this lack of participation that cause the problems in most farmers' associations in Sabah. This study is meant to determine participation of members in the farmers' association particularly their economic and extension participation, and the relationship between each type of participation with some other factors namely; sex, age, cohesiveness, membership status, land size, political party, political activity and literacy status. |
