Abstract: Pencemaran udara beberapa kota besar di Indonesia seperti Jakarta, Bandung, dan Surabaya telah mencapai tingkat yang mengkhawatirkan. Konsentrasi gas polutan dalam bentuk supended particulate matter (SPM), nitrogen dioksida (NO2), dan timbal (Pb) di atas standar yang ditetapkan oleh Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) menempatkan Jakarta sebagai salah satu kota dengan Megacity Pollution Index (MPI) yang setara dengan Beijing, lebih tinggi dari Karachi dan Kairo. Urbanisasi dan industrialisasi merupakan penyebab utama polusi udara di negara-negara berkembang seperti Indonesia.
Pollution at major cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya has come to an alarming extent. Concentration of pollutant gases in the form of suspended particulate matter (SPM), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and lead (Pb) above the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) put Jakarta as one of the city with the Mega-cities Pollution Index (MPI) is equivalent to Beijing's tallest, higher than Karachi and Cairo. Urbanization and industrialization is a major cause of air pollution in developing countries like Indonesia.
