Natural resources will be better preserved and managed if the communities dependent on these natural resources are involved. The presence of the diaspora community can contribute to the maintenance of resources outside their home territory. This study aims to identify the perceptions and attitudes of the Gayo Diaspora community and identify individual characteristics that affect the perceptions and attitudes of the Gayo diaspora community with respect to the conservation of food plants. Data collection was carried out through interviews through accidental sampling, observation and literature review. Results from the study indicate positive perceptions and attitudes about the use of food plants. The results of the analysis showed that the characteristics of the majority of respondents were unrelated to perceptions and attitudes, with the exception of education (p-value 0,021) on attitudes. Traditional knowledge about the use of food plants in the Gayo community will be able to form a society that can keep food plants available and sustainable.
