Abstract: Blood parasite infections can cause obvious economic losses in livestock and are commonly found in livestock of tropical regions such as Malaysia. This study was conducted to understand better the role and effect of hematological responses and the effects of common blood parasites in ruminants. The data for this literature review is obtained from several articles, journals, and books. This literature review was mostly done in Sabah, Malaysia due to the Pandemic situation. Most of the blood parasite is endemic in Malaysia. Various genera of blood parasites namely Anaplasma, Theileria, Babesia, Mycoplasma, and Trypanosoma have been documented to exert negative impacts on ruminants in Malaysia. Infection of blood parasites in ruminants changthe CBC count, especially in the leukogram whichgoes up and down, depending on various aspects such as age. Therefore, a diagnosis or prognosis should not be based on hematologic results solely, but should also take findings from the clinical examination or other diagnostic procedures into consideration. It is necessary to implement good management practices in preventing and reducing the occurrence of parasitic infestations in farms.
