Title: Utilization of chitosan from crustacean waste as wound healing at mice (Mus musculus albinus)

Abstract: Crustacean shell contain an organic substance called chitin, that can be transform into chitosan. This research used crab shell as the crustacean waste. This research focused on to know the influence of chitosan applied to wound healing process on male mice skin with macroscopic observation parameters such as size of wound, dryness of wound, and condition of granulation tissue also other parameter in histopathology observation such as inflammation cell infiltrate, neocapilarization, re-epitelization, and forming of connective tissue. Twenty seven mice were divided into 3 groups. Groups 1 (negative control), group II (positive control, Betadine®), and group III (chitosan). Wounding done by wounding the back fairish using scapel measuring 5x5 mm2. Betadine® and chitosan solution were applied every two times a day for 6 day. Observation and take skin sample were conducted at 0th, 2nd, 4th, and 6th day after wounding at 3 mice from each group. Statistically, chitosan have the ability speed up process of wound healing because it􀂶s significantly different compared to negative control.
