Abstract: Currently, eel seed farming still depends on the availability of natural catches of the glass eel. The Cimandiri river estuary is one of the potential glass eel fishing grounds in the Sukabumi Regency. This study aims to estimate the effectiveness of glass eel fishing gear at the Cimandiri River Estuary bycatch and measure water parameters at the research site. Field surveys and laboratory measurements were carried out for this study. The data were analyzed using descriptive, productivity, and effectiveness of the fishing gears (lift nets and push nets) and the analysis of the main target and bycatch of the gears. This study showed that water temperature, salinity, and pH in the Cimandiri River Estuary were suitable for the glass eel: a temperature of 28-30 C, a salinity of 0-4 PSU, and pH of about 6-7. The productivity value of the lift net was 33.22 g/hour, while the push net was 46.03 g/hour. The catches consisted of 92.58% main catch and 7.42% bycatch. The effectiveness value of the lift net was 91.76% for the main catch and 8.24% for the bycatch, while the pus net was 93.40% for the main catch and 6.60% for the bycatch. Thus, one could conclude that the fishing gears of the push net are more effective than the lift net to catch the glass eels.
