Abstract: | Pasundan cattle is an Indonesia’s local cattle in West Java that has potential to be developed as beef cattle. Genetic quality can be evaluated based on heritability values. This study aims to estimate the heritability values of birth weight, weaning weight, and yearling weight of pasundan cattle in Balai Perbibitan dan Pengembangan Inseminasi Buatan Ternak Sapi Potong Ciamis. The data used were 216 consisting of 91 for birth weight, 76 for weaning weight, and 49 for yearling weight collected from 9 bulls and 58 cows used to estimate the heritability values. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistic and estimation of heritability values using paternal halfsib correlations with nested classification. The mean of birth weight, weaning weight, and yearling weight of pasundan cattle were 18,37±3,48 kg; 87,14±19,01 kg; and 111,40±21,63 kg respectively. Body weight of male and female was not significant different (P>0,05). Heritability values of birth weight and weaning weight have been categorized in high heritability value, 0,39±0,12 and 0,65±0,49 respectively. On the other hand, the heritability value of yearling weight has been categorized as low heritability value, that was 0,04±0,23. |
