Abstract: Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL) has been designated as a Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra by UNESCO since 2004. It is in the category of in danger because of deforestation. Beside that baseline data on vegetation diversity and its distribution is limited. This study aims to estimate vegetation density using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), to analyze the vegetation composition and structure of the vegetation at Resort Agusen, TNGL, as well as to estimate the correlation between NDVI with the number of species, the number of individuals, and base area (LBDS). The method used was remote sensing with NDVI and vegetation analysis by establishing 15 plots. Based on the NDVI analysis, there were 5 classes of vegetation density, namely class 1 (open area/very low), class 2 (low), class 3 (medium), class 4 (high), and class 5 (very high). The dominant species in class 1-3 were minter bunge(E. perfoliatum), geseng minyak (L. lucidus), and petai cina (L. leucecephala). Classes 4 and 5 were dominated by species of geseng from the Fagaceae family. The curve of class 4 and 5 densities showed an inverted J curve. NDVI and LBDS showed the highest correlation (0.82) with R2 was 64.94% and LBDS model = 0.02 NDVI + 0.15. NDVI can be used to predict LBDS values quickly and accurately.
