This research has been conducted to determine the mechanism of ion transport through the spring onion membrane and onion membrane by measuring the membrane conductance in various temperatures and ion valences of electrolyte solutions optimized with response surface methodology (RSM). The membrane conductance was measured by using LCR meter in which the membrane was placed in the chamber filled with various electrolyte solutions and various temperatures. The results showed that the greater ion valence resulted in the higher membrane conductance both for spring onion and onion. The same results was obtained by the increasing of electrolyte solution’s temperature. The highest electrical conductance was obtained in AlCl3 electrolyte solution as 13,89 x 10-5 S at 328,2 K and 2,38 x 10-5 S for spring onion. Meanwhile, the highest electrical conductance for onion membrane in AlCl3 electrolyte solution at 292,8 K and 328,2 K are 2,65 x 10-5 S and 12,84 x 10-5 S, respectively. These results are in accordance with that optimized by RSM that predicted the highest electrical conductance at 323 K and ion valence of 3 for spring onion and onion membranes.
